Dr. Avis is a native Staten Islander who received his B.S. degree from Duke University and his D.D.S. from Georgetown University. After his dental graduation in 1987, Dr. Avis completed a one-year post doctoral residency at Staten Island Hospital. Since then Dr. Avis has averaged four to five weeks of continuing education per year. His emphasis of study has been in the restoration of aesthetic and functional health to people with compromised or missing teeth.
Dr. Avis has specialized training in prosthetics, aesthetics, implantology and TMJ dysfunction. A fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantology and an associate fellow in The American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Dr. Avis also holds membership in several distinctive societies: The American Equilibration Society, The R.V. Tucker Study Club, The American Academy of Gold Foil Operators and the L.D. Pankey Institute Alumni Association. Dr. Avis is a sought-after lecturer on the topics of treatment planning, complex restorative dentistry, occlusion and implantology.
In 1998 Dr. Avis co-founded The Center For Predictable Restorative Dentistry. The Center provides postdoctoral training to general dentists in the pursuit of advanced knowledge in prosthetic and aesthetic dentistry. The Center's curriculum has earned approval by The Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Avis’s commitment to his own education as well as to teaching others assures his patients of cutting edge knowledge and service.
Outside the office, Dr. Avis's primary love is spending time with wife Kimb erly and three daughters Sydney, Samantha and Morgan. In addition, the doctor enjoys exercise and sports, and has taken three titles in the Staten Island Amateur Golf Championship. Dr. Avis is an avid reader of personal development books and loves continuing his dental education.
